Jonathan Bamber is professor of glaciology, University of Bristol and currently Director of the Bristol Glaciology Centre. He has a degree in physics and a PhD in glaciology/remote sensing. He has >35 years experience in the analysis of airborne & satellite data sets from the polar regions, specialising in combining these data with models of the Earth system. He is an expert on the ice sheets covering Antarctica and Greenland and their contribution to sea level. He has also published extensively in the general field of geodesy, covering mapping of the surface topography of the Earth, sea level variations in time and space and measuring mass exchange between the land and oceans due to melting of land ice and the hydrological cycle. From 2016-2020 Bamber was president-elect and president of the European Geosciences Union, the leading organisation for Earth, planetary and space science research in Europe.

Luca Brocca received the M.S. degree in 2003 and the Ph.D. degree in 2008 in Civil Engineering, both with excellence, from the University of Perugia, Italy. Since 2019 (2009) he is Director of Research (Researcher) at CNR-IRPI. The main research interest lies in the development of innovative methods for exploiting satellite observations in hydrological applications (soil moisture, rainfall, discharge –> flood, landslide, drought, …), including SM2RAIN.
