Earth Observation (EO) is a not-for-profit interdisciplinary and international journal dedicated to the public discussion and open-access publication of high-quality studies and original research on Earth observation technologies and methods. EO implements a two-stage publication process.

Embracing the rapidly evolving technologies within Earth observation and their interdisciplinary character, EO serves a wide and diverse community of research scientists, engineers, and practitioners concerned with the full breadth and depth of Earth observation, from sensor and instrument design and construction to missions and campaigns, as well as analysis methods and applications of general interest within geosciences and beyond and of specialised interest for specific disciplines.

Manuscripts with a focus on Earth observation that include perspectives from economical, societal, educational, or other disciplines outside the natural sciences are also welcome.

11 Jun 2026 Evaluating InSAR-derived rates of surface-elevation change along the central U.S. Gulf Coast

Subsidence, or the sinking of land, threatens the U.S. Gulf Coast, where millions face growing flood risks from sea-level rise. Measuring the subsidence is essential for coastal planning and climate adaptation. Satellite radar (InSAR) is widely used to measure subsidence, but studies often disagree. Please read more.

07 May 2026 Temporary unavailability of article and preprint PDFs due to technical issues

Since Tuesday, 5 May, 06:30 CET, we have been experiencing technical issues caused by high demand on our systems, which have significantly affected our journal libraries. To maintain platform stability and ensure continued access to critical services, all preprint and journal article PDFs were temporarily restricted, while HTML full-text content and XML files remained available. Since Thursday, 7 May, 08:30 CET, we have made the preprint PDFs available again; however, journal article PDFs remain restricted until the technical issues have been resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to restore full PDF access as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.
